Nad szczytami polskich Sudetów wschodnich, a także środkowych Kotliny Kłodzkiej wznosi się rozległy masyw, którego kulminacje stanowi Śnieżnik o wysokości 1425 m n.p.m. Wierzchołek Śnieżnika jest rozległą (ok 400 na 180 metrów) bezleśną kopułą wystającą na 280 m ponad przyległe tereny.
